Mind-Body Connection and a Few Tools to Manage 'Those' Days.

The mind-body connection we would all like to be better at mastering.

We've all heard "get your mind right" and practiced principles to do just that, but what about managing your nervous system to regulate your body while growing your business?

The nervous system is our body's command center. Originating from your brain, it controls your movements, thoughts, feelings, and automatic responses to the world around you on the good days and "those days" we all have. When different stressors are present, they act as messengers to the body. You can be in a fight, flight, freeze or fawn response or rest and digest response. You know that feeling - climbing heart rate, racing mind, tense body — resulting in an emotional response but also a nervous system on alert. However, that alert system can be controlled.

  1. You're important, too. Be intentional about your sleep, water, food, and how you can create downtime. It's easy to dismiss yourself.

  2. Breathing is underrated. Practice those deep breathing skills everyone is talking about. You don't have to be a yogi! Bring oxygen into your cells and exhale the trash carbon dioxide that's slowing you down.

  3. Happy thoughts. There's a reason Happy was important in Disney's Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs - he was balancing out the others. What last made you laugh? Who brings a smile?

  4. Get out. Outside that is. Bundle up, find your sunglasses or throw on your raincoat. It is well proven that getting outdoors and walking clears the mind and brings calm.

The state of your mental and emotional well-being is as important as your physical well-being. You do have the ability to move out of the fight-or-flight response. Lifestyle shifts, from exercise to spending time with others, can help you navigate stress with more ease in mind and body.
